Our denomination Heritage Reformed Churches (HRC) and the Free Reformed Churches (FRC) held concurrent synods hosted by our congregation Jordan Heritage Reformed Church in Ontario, Canada.

We began our time together with a prayer service, where I had the privilege of preaching from Acts 20:28: “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock.” The central message was a reminder that those called to shepherd God’s people must first learn to shepherd their own souls.

The days were long and often demanding (on one occasion, our meetings extended from 8:30 am until 10:00 pm). Yet the Lord was pleased to bless our labors. By His grace, we were able to complete the work before us in a spirit of unity, brotherly love, and mutual respect, even when differing opinions were expressed.

Two particular highlights stand out. First, the synod gave its blessing for Puritan Reformed College (PRC) to begin operations this year, a development for which we are deeply thankful. Second, synod approved two theological students for our denomination: Justin VanBrugge of Grand Rapids HRC and David Van Brenk of Tillsonburg HRC. We rejoice to see the Lord continuing to raise up laborers for His church.

Though our denomination is small, I am continually amazed to see how God is pleased to use her for the advancement of His kingdom both at home and around the world. May we never take His kindness for granted.

Please continue to pray for the HRC denomination that she may remain faithful to her Lord, steadfast in the truth of His Word, and fruitful in the service of His kingdom.
